Grandeur of Giving – Generous or Gainful?

flower

Giving is extremely glorified to an extent where we get stamp of validation on our altruistic badge that we liberally use to question god or universe when our dear plans go for a toss. Credit of this behavior goes to our crafty deep-rooted conditioning of gaining by giving – we absolve ourselves of all the sins by being on gifting side

Like Einstein said, energy can neither be created nor destroyed – it just changes form. Similarly, we give what we take from this universe. We are not creating anything new per se. we are just discovering what exists already within us and around us.

Act of giving in itself is a reward just like loving in itself gives you a high irrespective of whether other person responds or not. Also, it’s not a generous self-less act rather a pragmatic approach that we all should take as responsible global citizens. Giving brings in much needed balance emotionally and materialistically. Problems galore primarily because of gap between haves and have-nots. More we aim to shrink that gap by the glue of giving – more probability of restoring peace and sanity in the world.

giving

Crudely put – Caring for a refugee kid, making him/her feel that they are wanted and they can add value to their ambience is a must for our own benefit. Else, some anti-social element can put a gun into their hands and ask them go shoot for no rhyme or reason. That child with a rifle wouldn’t blink an eye lid before killing because he/she never felt that they belonged to a place and their existence ever mattered to anyone. Angst of being neglected turn into indifference which is worse than hatred as it moulds them into a cold & insensitive human being.

Giving in the form of knowledge, money, time, effort, food, clothing, education etc is a way of decreasing the grand imbalance that we all have created either knowingly or unknowingly. Giving doesn’t promise the usual conditioned ROI including moral satisfaction and rightly so. Giving is not a solution to clean one’s karma rather a practical solution to the issue of imbalance in the society

Basically, wisdom also doesn’t belong to us rather we have borrowed from every interaction with other humans and environment around us. Also, organic feeling of contribution is possible only when we realize as to how lucky we all have been in terms of receiving and that content quotient is what triggers an individual to give back so that we bring in the much needed balance by putting ourselves in less privileged person’s situation. Giving creates social stability

This thought can be summarized in just two lines

Dunia ne tajurbat-o-hawadis ki shaql mein
jo kuch mujhe diya hai, Bas lauta raha hoon main
– Sahir Ludhiyanvi

Tajurbat – Experiences;

Hawadis – struggles/mishappenings
