Technology and Translation are two prime factors enabling whole planet to stay connected in true sense and spirit. We all will be forever indebted to internet infrastructure. Today content consumption is no more limited by geographical boundaries. Tech is just an enabler and so it’s not even taking away the captivating creative quotient from humans. It’s empowering every individual to express his/her story in their own native narrative across channels of his/her choice.
What more can one ask for? It has genuinely built a level playing field for all. We are only limited by our own inhibitions now – rest of the preparation is done down to the T by genius minds. To add to the above, influx of global content through affordable and accessible platforms has made all of us more accepting/tolerant towards varied point of views further encouraging each one of us to be more of our own authentic self. For a change, reality is refreshing and so one need not fictionalize frantically to please audience.
It’s no more escapism to some random unknown wonder/fantasy land. It’s about watching our own lives unfold on screen and realizing that we are the lead flawed protagonist making the show come alive. It’s interesting, lively and fun –We are good enough and rocking the ramp just the way we are
Also, more of not-so-manicured reality gives comfort to all of us making us feel that we are all more similar than different. Every experience of every damn individual is a privilege. Definition of ‘privileged’ is no more some unattainable rich and famous diva rather anyone with original perspective with full conviction to own it up.
Engaging series like Pushpavalli tackles majority of our stunning stereotypes with humor. It addresses natural human emotions and issues such as Jealousy, Possessiveness, Looks related insecurity, Body shaming, Hypocrisy, Traditional mindset, Anxieties of a single mother, Conditioned definition of who is handsome and hot – unlimited edition of our junk list can go on and on solely created by our rigid definitions and judgments of feelings.
More power to shows such as these because they start to normalize ‘imperfections’ and that can be a cure to our ‘perfection plague’ manufactured by pseudo projections and positioning by anyone in the power of influence. We need not aspire to be someone else all the time to prove a point but just admire and absorb what works for us at that point in time from anyone and everyone around with comforting confidence.
Oscar winning Korean movie ‘parasite’ reaching us at the comfort of our home is a proof enough that ethnicity is going through identity crisis. Personally, I didn’t find anything new per se in the movie but happy that language barriers are blurring. Now, we are all the more convinced that it’s the same mess all over the world. Concept of ‘vishwa manava’ or ‘universal human’ by poet Kuvempu is playing out in real.
Be it Korea or Kenya or Kentucky or Kolkata – It’s the age old class and greed issues. How the gap between haves and have-nots can drive extreme emotions get the better of someone to an extent that killing seems to be an organic reaction with almost zero repent. It’s so complex that we can’t assess what and who is right and wrong. Obsolete moral compass stops serving us. Just live with the consequence with as much less bitterness as possible.
Also, during the times of #lockdown, we realize how much more gratitude technology deserves for allowing us to access art, movies, music, articles, books, cooking classes, fitness videos, spiritual dosage, online courses etc from across the world at the beck and call of our moody moods.
